Supergirl #50 Review

Supergirl #50 has been a bit of polarizing issue. Some people loved it, others really didn't. Not much in the middle. A lot of people question how involved Helen really was in the story, and I can tell you that she was heavily involved. She and I had several phone conversations discussing the continuity of the DCU. We pitched several stories together. She really wanted to include the Titans, and thought it was so awesome that Supergirl was a part of a team with Wonder Girl, Miss Martian, etc. We talked a lot, and each did several passes on the script.

I'm not going to include links to all the reviews I find online, not because they're negative, but b/c there have been so many. Here's one, though, which is gushingly positive from a Supergirl fan site. It's certainly the longest, most analytical of the reviews I've read. And yes, very positive! :-p

451 Fridays

As part of the promotion for the Ender Companion, I did a short blog for 451 Fridays, which asks writers to name the 5 most important/significant books to them. The books that they would preserve for humanity if society crumbled to the point that books would be burned, a la "Farenheit 451." I picked 4 classics and a book by Sarah Vowell. You can read my brief entry here.

In Comics Shops Wednesday, Feb. 10

Projects I worked on, available in comic book specialty shops this week.

ENDER'S GAME: COMMAND SCHOOL #5
Written by Christopher Yost; Art by Pasqual Ferry; Story Consultant: Jake Black
The stunning conclusion to Orson Scott Card's award-winning classic sci-fi novel! Ender and his jeesh are being pushed to the breaking point by Mazer Rackham, the only man ever to defeat the Formics. But as the Third Invasion approaches, the games are getting more intense by the day. Can Ender win? And who is he really playing against? Himself? His teachers? Or someone else? The final game ends here.

As you can see in the description, I didn't write this, only worked as Story Consultant. Also, this isn't the final Ender's comic Marvel is producing. Only the final issue of "Ender's Game."

Also, when you go to your comic shop this week, be sure to confirm your preorder of SUPERGIRL #50, which hits next Wednesday.

My Appearance on the Geek Show Podcast

A couple of weeks ago, I appeared on the Geek Show Podcast, the fantastic show hosted  by X96 morning show star Kerry Jackson alongside Deseret News film critic, and my pal Jeff Vice. Also on the panel is Scott Pierce, TV critic for the aforementioned Deseret News. Scott profiled me in the News 15 years ago, when I was lobbying to save "My So-Called Life." (Tangent: this was in the glory days of "letter campaigns" to save TV shows. With the advent on the internet, the uniqueness of such a cause is lost. Any and every show gets a "Save our Show" campaign now. Those were the days!)

Anyway, you can download the podcast by clicking here. WARNING: it is NOT SAFE FOR WORK. There is a lot of "mature" (and by that, we mean "immature") content, and adult language, etc. If you are easily offended, don't listen to the show. But if you're okay with it, give it a listen. We talk about Smallville, Supergirl, and a lot of other projects I've worked on.

Supergirl Trade Paperback Announced

The regular issue featuring my Supergirl story co-written with Helen Slater, "Supergirl #50," won't hit stores for another week and half, but Amazon has announced (and is taking preorders for) the trade paperback wherein the story will be reprinted. You can pre-order it by clicking here.

"Ender Companion" No Longer Available at Amazon; Boycott 'em!

Because of the Amazon/Macmillan publishing fight, "The Authorized Ender Companion" is no longer available at Amazon. Amazon has dropped all books published by Macmillan and its imprints, including Tor. This move has angered readers and authors, and has numerous people calling upon customers to boycott Amazon until the online bookseller restores good faith with publishers, authors, and customers. So, to that end, I've removed the Amazon links on the side of my blog, replacing them with Barnes and Noble. And you can buy the Ender Companion from Barnes and Noble online by clicking here until Amazon fixes itself!
